Classroom Information

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to welcome you and your child to Kindergarten. I hope that the following information will be informative and helpful throughout the year. I have included the necessary information on how the classroom is structured and my expectations of your child.

As you are aware, children develop differently and it has come to my attention hat we have children at different levels in the classroom. I will do my best to meet the needs of every child in the room. In order to do so, I need your support at home to ensure the children will continue to learn, grow and develop. Working as a team will benefit your child.

WELCOME TO ROOM M22!

I am anticipating a wonderful and exciting year! In planning for a successful year, I would appreciate your assistance with the following items:

All Kindergarten students should bring a book bag to school daily. It should be large enough to carry 8 ½ by 11” papers in.
Pencils, crayons, scissors and glue are provided for school use, but it is advisable to have these items available at home to complete homework assignments.
There will be no toys or weapons permitted at school. This is a school-wide policy supported by the district code of conduct, and should be taken seriously. Please be aware of what your child brings to school as the item may be removed from the child if it is believed to be harmful to your child or others.
Your child will need a folder to carry important papers to and from school. A simple two-pocket folder is best. (Your child will receive a Castle Hills folder in the beginning of the year).
We go outside to recess whenever possible, so please make sure your child wears sturdy shoes (no flip flops) and coats when necessary. Please make sure your child’s name is on the clothing. The lost and found pile grows quickly!!
Please keep the school informed of any change in your phone numbers. Your child’s safety is a main concern for us.

Classroom Procedures

Absence or Tardy	Students are expected to attend school everyday unless illness occurs or a family emergency arises. Both attendance and tardiness are marked daily. A note is required stating the reason for absence and the date in which the child was absent. If your child is tardy, please report to the office with your child to help sign them in.
Transportation	A note is required if there is a change in your child’s mode of transportation. If you are picking up a child that normally rides the bus, please do not come to the classroom, as your child will be walked to the office at dismissal time. Also, if you are picking your child up early, please report to the office and sign the child out. We are not to release children unless they have been officially signed out. These policies are in place to protect your child.
Homework	Homework will be sent home on a weekly basis. The packet will come home on Monday and needs to be returned on Friday. Please sign the homework cover sheet when returning the packet. If you have any questions – let me know.
Classroom Rules	Keep your hands and feet to yourself. Clean up your area when you are finished Follow the Castle Hills Creed.
Consequences	Verbal Warning Removal from area Time-out (So-So Gram) Note or telephone call to parent (Sad Gram) *Please sign and return any Sad or So-So Grams your child receives. In order for all children to benefit from education, discipline should not be a major part of the instructional day.

Tickets	Small paper tickets are distributed to the children randomly throughout the day. Children receive tickets for exhibiting positive behaviors. The children write their name on the back of the ticket, placing it in a bucket in the classroom. Using a lottery system, at least one prize is given out each day.
Birthdays	If you wish to celebrate your child’s birthday at school, please let me know in advance. I would prefer a small treat (cupcakes or other small snack).
Change of clothes	Please send in a labeled change of clothes for your child in a plastic bag. This is in case of any type of accident – bathroom, playground, paint, etc.
