Reading/Language Arts

Students will be using the Harcourt Brace Storytown Series. There are 6 separate themes. Each theme consists of 6 stories each. Once the theme is completed, there will be a Holistic test, a Skills test, and a Reading/Writing test. These tests important. They will be used as other indicators for placing your child at the end of the year.

We are also continuing with Accelerated Reader. Your child will read leveled books and take the on-line AR quizzes.

Math

We will be using Investigations in Data and Space as our Math Curriculum. You might havc heard this called TERC. This is a hands-on, minds-on curriculum. Students will be expected to not only solve the problems, but to also explain how they got their answers.

Science

This year will be be learning about the human body, earth materials, and water. Each unit is hands on. The hands-on approach helps students understand the concept being taught. For more information on our science units, click here.
