Meet Mrs. Girnis

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Girnis, and I am the advisor for the Castle Hills Math Club. I have been teaching for almost 14 years. Six years at Colwyck Elementary, and 8 years at Castle Hills.

I became involved in the Math Club at Colwyck Elementary. When the elementary schools in Colonial School District became K-5 schools in 2001, I found myself at Castle Hills. Many Math Club members from Colwyck also found themselves at Castle Hills. The students begged me to start the club up again, and the rest is history.

Since the Math Club started in 2001, Castle Hills' students have won many awards. In 2002 one of our students won the district tournament and a silver medal at the state competition. In 2003, a 4th grade student won a silver medal at the state competition. And in 2004, two Castle Hills 5th grade students won 2 silvers, a Gold and the Grand Championship Cup at the state competition. In 2005, three students walked away with medals in the district tournament. In 2007 two Castle Hills students won first and second place at the district competition.
