June 2008
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to George Read Middle School. Sports are a large part of the middle school experience, and we encourage all interested students to participate in our programs. This past school year, we added Boys and Girls Track to our already broad compliment of sports which includes Soccer, Field Hockey, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Boys and Girls Basketball, Baseball, and Softball. Please consider having your child participate in one or more of these programs. Try-out dates and schedules will be posted on the George Read website.
In order for any student to try out for any of our Sports Programs, that student must have a valid physical examination completed on the official DIAA forms on or after May 1, 2008. Physicals may be performed by your personal physician or by First State Orthopedics. On Wednesday, August 27, 2008, First State Orthopedics will perform Physicals after school, from 2:30-5:00pm. The fee for the physical is $22.00, payable by cash or check to First State Orthopedics. Buses will be provided for your child’s transportation home. This will be the ONLY opportunity for an in-school physical. In either case, all information on the forms must be completed prior to completing the physical examination.
Sports packets, which include directions and all DIAA forms are available this summer at the George Read Middle School Main Office. The DIAA forms are also available on the State of Delaware website by using the link below:

If you have any questions regarding the sports physicals, or eligibility, please contact Mr. Sawdey at 323-2760, ext.210. Please remember that any student wishing to try out for a team must have all DIAA forms on file prior to the try-out dates.
Sincerely,
Devin M. Sawdey
