George Read Middle Guidance Department

The guidance staff includes a grade level guidance counselor, psychologist, and contacts to social services who serve students and their parents in a variety ways. In addition to counseling and maintaining student files, the guidance counselor assists with DSTP preparation, scheduling and orientation.

Students and parents are encouraged to contact the guidance staff any time they have questions about scheduling and/or placement, or if they are concerned about academic performance, psychological or social issues.  The guidance office can also provide parents with information about resources for a variety of special needs.  Decisions made during the middle school years often affect a student's high school scheduling.

Parents, students and the school personnel should be partners when these decisions are being made.  The guidance staff is available to help students sort through the many options and pressures of the modern world.  They are here to help students learn how to be good decision-makers, how to communicate, how to solve problems and to value their individual skills and abilities.
