A new program implemented by George Read Middle to promote a positive learning community

The PBS Program is designed to assist schools in developing comprehensive positive behavioral support (PBS) programs for students. Comprehensive PBS programs seek to establish positive teaching and learning environments for all students in all areas of the school both instructional and non-instructional. The key features of a PBS school are:

•  A staff commitment to managing behavior.

•  Clearly defined and communicated expectations and rules.

•  An instructional component for teaching students self-control and expected behaviors.

•  Reward system to acknowledge and value student performance of expected behaviors.

•  Consequences and clearly stated procedures for correcting rule-breaking behaviors.

•  A support plan to address the needs of students with more severe, challenging behaviors.

When PBS strategies are implemented school-wide, students benefit by having an environment that is conducive to learning. All individuals (students, staff, teacher, parents) learn more about their own behavior, learn to work together, and support each other as a community of learners.
