Dear Parents/Guardians,

After intense planning, the staff at George Read Middle School is ready to unveil our new proactive behavior support system. Schools are successful when they help children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. For this to happen, it is imperative that we have a safe environment that is supportive and conducive to growth. By setting forth clear social and behavioral expectations and directly teaching students about those expectations, it is our goal to create this atmosphere for learning.

Our new plan is based on PBS – Positive Behavioral Support. The staff has been trained in this system, and it will be explained to the children the first few days of school.

The PBS system has four main components:

· GRMS Code of Arms – A Matrix of Behavioral Expectations

· Cool Tools – Lessons to teach students the Behavioral Expectations

· Shields – An acknowledgment/reinforcement system

· Code of Conduct Referral Forms
