Welcome to George Read Middle School's PTA Organization. It has been a long time since George Read has had this organization. We are proud to announce its return in the 2007 - 2008 school year. We believe that PTAs benefit all children of the Colonial School District, their parents, teachers and fellow community members. George Read's PTA will be no exception.

What is a PTA?
A PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) is a self-governing local unit of the National PTA, the largest child advocacy group in the United States. Each local PTA and its members, upon acceptance of the nonsectarian, noncommercial, and nonpartisan policies of the National PTA, are automatically members of their state PTA and National PTA. Each unit has a responsibility to promote the Objects, policies and guiding principals of the state branch and the National PTA as it plans its programs and activities to meet the needs of children and youth in the George Read Middle School community. Resources of the entire organization, such as national and state conventions, workshops, conferences, publicity and special leadership development conferences are made available to each unit.
National PTA Objectives
o To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship
o To raise the standards of home life
o To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
o To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teacher may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
o To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education
