Dear George Read Families,
As we prepare for an exciting 2007-2008 school year, I would like to welcome you to George Read Middle School. One new and exciting component of our instructional program is the introduction of a new advisory period. Every student will be assigned an advisor and there will be small group meetings throughout the year. Advisors will meet with students on a regular basis for academic, career, and personal-social advising.
In order to foster communication with parents we have arranged a series of parent roundtables where parents have the opportunity to come in an informally speak with the administration. These meetings will be held on September 21, November 30, February 1, and April 25. These meetings will be help at 8AM and refreshments will be provided. We do ask that you call in advance if you plan on attending so that we have enough refreshments for everyone.
Academic excellence is our first goal with high expectations for all students. Students will be provided a quality instructional program based on the Board-adopted curriculum. A key component of the instructional program this year will focus on assessment of students with teachers providing quality feedback to enhance student performance.
A second goal is to help students so they will be well-rounded individuals. The expectation is George Read students be focused, consistent, and positive. In order to foster a productive environment that encourages academic achievement, George Read is Positive Behavior Support (PBS) School where students are recognized for making good choices. Each month there will be a PBS incentive to continually encourage student participation.
A final goal is for students to be prepared for high school. It is important that students are academically and socially prepared in order to be successful at this level. If you have concerns, comments, or questions, please feel free to contact me at 323-2760. We are also always looking for parents to serve on our School Achievement Team. Please call the school office if you would like to be a participant in these meetings. I look forward to working with you and your child as he/she prepares for their journey into high school.
Sincerely,
Paul Walmsley
Principal
