Gunning Bedford offers a variety of after school athletic programs. These include soccer, field hockey, cheerleading, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track and field.

The Delaware Interscolastic Athletic Association (DIAA) requires that all students must maintain a GPA of 1.75 In order to participate in these programs.

In addition, students must also have a current physical on file in the school nurse's office. All athletic physicals must be on the DIAA physical examination form - no exceptions!! Physicals can be completed by your personal family physician, or by First State Orthopedics on Tuesday, August 25th, 2009, from 2:30 - 5:00. After school transportation will be provided. The cost will be $22.00. Checks can be made out to First State Orthopedics.

Directions to Away Sites

To Springer:

Take I-95 North. Exit onto Concord Pike (202 N). Right onto Foulk Road ( RT 261). Continue straight. Turn left on to Shipley Road (there will be a traffic light and Torro Lawn Mower Shop). Continue straight on Shipley Road. School is up on the Left.

To Talley :

Take I- 95 North until you get to Naamans Road. Turn left onto Naamans Road at the end of the ramp. Turn Right into development called Ramblewood. Talley Middle School is in the development.

To PsDupont:

Take I-95 North and exit ontoSouth Concord Pike/RT202 at exit #8. Proceed towards Wilmington and merge onto Concord Ave. Turn left onto N. Broom Street which will become Miller Road. Turn right onto West 34th Street and arrive at the school on the left.

 

To George Read:

Take Rt 9 North towards the city of New Caslte. Turn left onto Washington Ave./Rt 141 at the stop sign. Proceed straight through the traffic light onto Rt. 141 (Basin Road). Turn right at the second light after William Penn High School. School is on the right.

To William Penn High:

Take Rt 9 North towards the city of New Caslte. Turn left onto Washington Ave./Rt 141 at the stop sign. Proceed straight through the traffic light onto Rt. 141 (Basin Road). Turn left at the second light into William Penn High School.

To McCullough:

Take Rt 9 North over I-295. Turn left onto Halcyon Drive (at Shell Station). Turn left onto Chase Avenue. Proceed straight through stop sign. Proceed to the left of the bulding. Fields and gym are in the back.

To Claymont Elementary

Take US 13 North and merge onto I-495 towards the Port of Wilmington. Take the Philadelphia Pike-US-13S exit (exit 5) towards Claymont. Turn left onto Philadelphia Pike/US 13. Then turn right onto Seminole Ave and then left onto Green Street. School is located on the right.

   

Students Riding a Colonial School District Bus home from away games versus a Brandywine District School will be brought back to William Penn and then board a bus that will take them home at around 6:15pm.

Students riding a Colonial School District Bus home from an in district away game (McCullough or George Read) will board the bus at that school and come home from the away game.
