End of the Year Computer Prep

Here are your directions for preparing your computers:

1. Clean the CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse using the supplies provided to each of the team leaders. Make sure the power is off when cleaning. A pencil eraser works well to remove adhesive from stickers or pen marks. Just be careful with the eraser dust.

a. Spray the cleaner on the paper towel, then apply the damp towel to the surfaces.

b. Spray the canned air between the keys of the keyboard and in the vents on the CPU and monitor.

c. Open the mouse and clean any dust off the gears on the inside of the mouse.

When the last person on your team has completed the computer cleanup, please send any remaining supplies, including the empty gla ãss cleaner bottle, to either Laurie (718) or Judy (405).

2. After you have been checked out, please do the following:

a. Disconnect the TVator from the computer and the TV. Leave the cable attached to your TV -- just coil it up high enough so that the custodians can work around it. Reconnect the monitor and other cables to your computer. (Leave the cords attached to the computer and monitor.)

b. We are going to leave all computers in the rooms this summer. Just make sure that they are not immediately in plain sight from a door or window. Leave all parts of your computer attached. (Do not disconnect the mouse, keyboard and speakers from the CPU. Leave the tower on its shelf under the cart.) One tablecloth should cover two computers if cut in half. Please cut them. Move the Monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers to the center of the cart and cover all parts of your computer with the tablecloth provided. Coil all cords and tuck them in the opening in the back of your t able. NO CORDS SHOULD DRAG ON THE FLOOR. Tape the tablecloth to your cart. Label the cart with your name and classroom number just to insure that it is returned to the right room after your room has been cleaned.

c. Disconnect the Internet cable from the wall jack, coil it ˆ and either tuck it in the trough at the back of the cart or lock it up in your closet.

d. Disconnect the power strip and tuck it inside the opening at the back of your table or lock it in your closet.

The more secure you make your computer, the better the chance of keeping it. Make sure it is well-labeled and carefully positioned on the table.

Thank you and have a great summer.
