The theme of Collection Five is, " I Still Believe." In the words of Anne Frank (July 14, 1944)...........In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. What is it that you believe? "
We can learn so much from studying the lives of people from the past. Even ordinary people have important lessons to teach us about bravely facing danger and not losing faith in human nature, depsite the most unforgivable acts of injustice. As we read this collection, think about why Anne Frank became a heroine to so many people. Is it simply because she died tragically in a Nazi concentration camp at the age of fifteen, or is there something else that makes her heroic and teaches us what it means to be human?
