Attention Athletes, Cheerleaders & Band Members

Due to the William Penn Wellness Center being closed to sports physicals from June 3rd through August 7th we are providing a list of alternative locations for a Sports Physical.  As always remember your Primary Care Physician is the best place to receive a physical.

You may call starting August 10th to make appointments for Sports Physicals before the season starts August 15th.  Our number is 324-5740.

WP Students Shine in the Classroom and on Stage!

This year, four WP students are performing in the Delaware All-State Theater production of West Side Story. Our congratulations to Kyle Crowther, Jennifer Figureoa, Avery Miller, and Emmanuel Berthelot.

Outstanding JROTC Instructor

Congratulation to MSgt Rush, William Penn High School's AFJROTC Aerospace Science Instructor on being selected as an Outstanding JROTC instructor.  Only 20% (386) of 1,930 total instructors worldwide were selected for this award.  His commitment to our JROTC program and school environment in general is evident every day!

Super Stars in Education

Congratulations to Marsha Evans for being recognized as a "Super Star in Education" for her Math Program for At-Risk Students.

Brian Fields ('09) to play in USA Football's 2009 Junior National Team

WPHS congratulates Brian Fields on being named to the 2009 Jr. National Team (Football). For the past four years, Brian's football talent and character have embodied Penn Pride, and Field's now brings that to the national stage.

Marching Colonials Find Success and Fun in Wildwood

This weekend the WPHS Marching Colonials traveled to Wildwood, NJ to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championships. The Marching Colonials returned with two medals in the Scholastic A Division:
**1st Place (Gold Medal) - Jazz Band
**2nd Place (Silver Medal) - Drumline
Congratulations Marching Colonials! As always, you display Penn Pride wherever you go!

WP Places at DE TSA Competition

WP students received 1st place in two events at the DE Technology Student Association Competition. In the areas of Electronic Game Design, Mohamad Dicko & Johannah Wilkins received 1st place and in the Film Technology Category, Earl Bradley, Jason Chen, Tyler Haupt, Md Rahman, Ehmonie Roberson, & Jaime Tapia won 1st place.

Over $4 Million Secured in Scholarships

Congratulations to the Class of 2009 for securing over $1 million in college scholarships. Students, please remember to bring all acceptance letters and scholarship letters to guidance.

Special congratulations to Geraldine Inoa for being a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholars award. Geraldine is one of 1,000 students, selected from 20,500 applicants, to receive this honor.

Congrats FCCLA Competition Participants

Sharawn Edwards Bronze Medal in (Child Care Learning Center), Tamyra Pearsall (Certificate in Child Care Arts & Crafts) , Tempest Stewart certificate in (Star Event Illustrated Talk) , Morgan Saunders certificate in (Culinary Arts Cake Decorating), and Tiara Jackson certificate in (Culinary Arts Table Setting) for their participation in Family Career and Community Leaders of America competition during Spring Break.

WP Students to Travel to France to Debate

Lianmarie Colon and Geraldine Inoa have been selected to participate in this years' FRANCE-USA DEBATES which will take place in Paris, Fontainebleau and Caen, France May 28- June 9.  These two students were selected among candidates from around the nation.

Science Students Display their Knowledge

6 WP students attended The Delaware Valley Science Fair after winning multiple awards at the New Castle County Science Expo. Special congratulations to Yvonne Rivera for placing 3rd in the area of Botany with her display, "Going Green with Grey."

WP Boys Basketball Wins State Finals

Congratulations to the 2008-09 DIAA State Champion COLONIALS!

The WPHS Boys Basketball team defeated Caesar Rodney, 67-54, Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center. This is WP's 4th state basketball title.

Soap for Hope

WPHS is currently collect soap, washcloths, and quart-sized baggies for the Haitian Health Foundation .  Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, and a bar of soap costs approximately a day's pay.  WPHS recognizes the need develop global citizenship in our students.  We hope you will help and donate what you can for others in need.  For more information, contact Marybeth Kessler at mkessler@colonial.k12.de.us .

WPHS Student Council Blood Drive Sets Record

William Penn set a new one-day record, collecting 201 pints of blood from a total of 262 volunteers. The Student Council offers congratulations and gratitude to all those wonderful donors who helped save hundreds of lives with their generosity. 

Kim Davis (Art) receives state recognition!!!

Congratulations to Kim Davis for earning the Art Educators of Delaware's Howard Pyle Art Educator Award. Earning this prestigious award is a tribute to Ms. Davis' commitment to art education on behalf of students and the Colonial community.
