The maintenance of good student behavior is an
important part of the child’s development and safety. Every child
has a right to an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.
1. Pleasantville Core Beliefs- All teachers are able to choose their
own methods for classroom management as long as the Pleasantville Core
Beliefs are not violated. These beliefs are:
- Students should be responsible for solving their own problems with
adult guidance.
- Students should learn that breaking rules results in consequences.
- Preserving and/or enhancing a student's self-respect and dignity is
crucial to a successful disciplinary action.
- Discipline is considered an opportunity for personal growth.
2. The POLAR program helps to support positive behaviors in our students.
Each marking period, an awards assembly will be held to recognize those
students who consistently follow school rules. Classroom teachers will
be able to choose up to two students a month to receive a certificate
and other rewards at the quarterly assemblies.
3. Students must learn that negative behavior generates certain consequences.
Whenever possible, logical consequences will be utilized. A few consequences
to consider are: reprimand, loss of recess, time-out seat, time-out in
another classroom, parent contact, and behavior modification programs.
Before a student is sent to the office with a referral, it is expected
that at some time, that student’s parents have been contacted about
his or her behavior.
4. If the inappropriate behavior continues after classroom consequences
have been implemented, a student behavior referral form will be completed.
The administrator then will act in accordance with the District’s
code of conduct.
